Improving on Google Scholar

In search, relevance is king. Improving search relevance for our users is our first priority.

We’re taking the time to better understand each discipline we index. Different fields don’t search the same way- “computational” might be a great search term in geology, but it’s a red herring in computer science. We’re beginning to index fields we’re more familiar with, and tailoring search to the field. Then we’re moving to the next. And because of our social approach, we can apply these improvements to your results.

What does this all mean for users? Less wading through garbage.

While search relevance has always been important, academics know that bibliometric integrity is just as important when establishing a paper’s or author’s reputation.

Instead of Google’s crawl first, ask questions later approach, we’re focused on utilizing authoritative existing digital libraries, and supplementing them with our own data. Academia has a history of policing and correcting its data online, and we’d rather work with the community than without it.
